  1. Um, it was late and I was just feeling goofy. If schistosomes can "divorce," maybe they need divorce lawyers. That's all.

    The paper itself is looking to see if female schistosomes are choosing males based on how heterozygous they are overall (i.e., their own internal genetic diversity) or whether the male is genetically dissimilar to the female. Both mechanisms could potentially ensure that their offspring are genetically diverse. The story goes that the more diversified a female's brood is genetically, the more likely it is that some will escape host immune defenses and breed successfully themselves. This is a major concern for a parasite.
